Families’ Needs Don’t End When the Holidays Do

The Ada Jenkins Center helps families facing crisis and uncertainty.

Nonprofits everywhere are blessed with neighbors’ generosity at the holiday season. But our clients need help year-round,

The Ada Jenkins Center is a hub for social services for vulnerable families in Cornelius, Davidson and Huntersville. We know firsthand the anxiety these families are living right now.

  • 95% of the families we serve live below the federal poverty limit ($26,500 for a family of four)
  • When COVID-19 arrived in March 2020, 65 percent of our clients were laid-off from their jobs, or their hours were reduced, or they were furloughed.
  • Many work in the hospitality and service industries, which are still recovering.
  • Nearly all are families of color, which nationwide have been disproportionately affected by the COVID economy.
  • Many are living paycheck-to-paycheck, when a one-bedroom apartment in our towns can cost $1,200+ per month.

How Can You Help?

At nearly all nonprofit organizations, November and December mark a season of kindness when people tend to make year-end gifts in the holiday spirit. Please continue supporting our area nonprofits year-round:

  • Call to ask what types of donated items they need
  • Ask how you can volunteer
  • Involve your friends and neighbors
  • Make a monetary gift in honor of a loved one’s birthday

Our vulnerable neighbors still need food, and clothing, and warmth, and housing – throughout the year. Their needs don’t end when the holidays do.
