Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services

The Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services (DSS) provides a case manager for Mecklenburg County residents at The Ada Jenkins Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Medicaid and Food Stamp Applications

Hours: Walk-ins, Thursdays from 9 am - 5 pm. Clients are seen on a first come, first serve basis.

Required Documentation:

• Picture ID
• Check stubs from previous month's work
• Social Security Number or card
• Paperwork regarding out-of-state child support

If applying for Medicaid, clients must also bring:

• Two forms of proof of residency
• Birth certificate for EACH Medicaid applicant
• Green Card if a LPR (lawful permanent resident)

Clients should visit DSS at 301 Billingsley Road, Charlotte, NC 28211.

Medicare

Clients seeking Medicare should visit the Social Security Administration at 5800 Executive Center Dr in Charlotte. To make an appointment, call (800) 772-1213.
